June 30, 2012

Jamie

Needed to get out for a walk yesterday, even if it was crazy hot! I smiled when I walked past this apartment building and saw that they were all decked out for Canada Day! Working for myself, I often forget that it's a holiday. I'm going to remember to have burgers and a beer on Monday though!

Suzie

I love having movies and books come in on Friday at the library to give me stuff to do. I actually got more than this but the librarian was off picking them up when I took the photo. BTW, YouTube 4 You is totally out of date. I'm enjoying the Make Videos That Don't Suck one and Chris' Art of Non-Conformity also came in, woot!

Jamie

My friend Fabeku Fatunmise inspires me. I was blessed to do a Rev-o-rama session with him that helped me so much with growing into the next level of Jamie Ridler Studios. Afterwards, Fabeku sent me the most truly amazing post-rev gift. It is so personal and inspiring and I love it - but I won't share it because I want to ensure the loving surprise for anyone else that does a rev. Spoiler-free magic packages!! (I do want to say that as well as being inspired by the gift, I was blown away by the whole presentation - so Fabeku! I love that)

Shannon

I was totally under the weather yesterday (and still feel like it today), so I tried to 'relax' as much as possible (not sure when that became hard to do), and sat down to watch Bigfoot which is on this weekend on Space. Wow. It was a lot of fun.

Suzie

I had a bad day yesterday. No sleep or rest. Too tired to do anything. I did end up moving all my jewellery stuff off my altar though. I wrote on our other blog about it. Reg came home with some potential news but it's probably not going to happen. I have been really out of sorts since I got back and it just seems to keep getting worse. I really wish I knew what was going on. I can't plan anything right now and feel so unhappy about it.

That said, I had fun writing my going home post & Maple Leaf Gardens post. Love having you both in those posts! I hope you like them.

June 28, 2012

Jamie

Tanya and I have missed our co-working days for the past little while. It was a treat to show up at her place today, ready to work, and discover this lovely message on her doorstep.

Shannon

Headed out yesterday for a little summer slash of Toronto After Dark Film Festival with their summer screenings of the Cuban zombie film Juan of the Dead and supernatural/haunted house film The Packt. Itw as so much fun and so great to see so many of my buddies at the films.

Suzie

Other than record Hexed yesterday with Shannon, I didn't do very much. I lost consciousness this morning and yesterday, just rested after our call. My fatigue from the trip is ridiculous but I am trying to listen to my body say, Suzie, you need rest! Boring I know but...

Oh I did start watching Storage Wars though. Makes me feel like we're still hanging out and man, that show gets me every time. I learn so much from it and now I have a new TV ritual. Shockingly, I decided to stop watching Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef. I am just done with competition food shows. I feel much better making that decision which seems weird but is true. Was taking too much of my time, happy to let them go.

Jamie

I am so excited to be a prompt contributor to Rachel and Meg's The Secret Me Book, a follow-up to their wonderful Happy Book! I was thrilled when they asked me and just so delighted to read their kind words and then find my very own exercise for knowing and celebrating you! What a joy!

Shannon

I've been feeling a little under the weather and trying to relax/rest which I thought I did yesterday (but actually only did for an hour), so I brain-tricked/bribed myself to rest or at least stop puttering by watching 2 films off my owned/unseen pile.

Suzie

I had to go out yesterday. I knew it was supposed to rain but I had no idea it was going to be like a hurricane, the rain warnings came out after I left the house. I tried to wait for the rain to pass while I was at the thrift store for shelter but it just kept coming down harder. I got absolutely soaked as I walked home for miles.

While at the store I almost bought some clothing that I knew didn't suit me. I thought a lot about the style I like and that we talked about when I was visiting. I had also made this Victorian Goth Foodie doll earlier in the day. It won't be easy to find clothing I want but I know now, I don't want to spend money on stuff that doesn't suit my odd style. I did find a cool black mesh shawl though that kind of works so I bought that for $4!

June 26, 2012

Jamie

Yesterday was a wildly productive day here at Jamie Ridler Studios. We've made major progress on the guidebook and the e-book. It is so exciting to see these beauties just about ready to fly out into the world. I really hope that people will love them! Jackie, Lisa and I have put our hearts into them!

Shannon

The week beginning with organizing, planning, tea and a sleeping cat. Thank goodness he was sleeping because otherwise he'd be on all the paper!

Suzie

We finally got some sun yesterday so I checked out my garden. On the left you can see my bush beans coming up from the ground. Very exciting! And my mock orange tree was still in bloom, I thought I would miss it while I was away. And it is getting so tall! A new crop of strawberries are in too, gotta go pick some today.

June 25, 2012

Jamie

The hardest part of a visit is having to say goodbye. Even the bus ride becomes valued time to spend together. It was so great having Suzie here and wow, we miss her like crazy already. I'm set to start booking Sister Summit 2013!

Shannon

OMG I feel like total slacker girl, I don't think I've posted all week! And here is my regular weekend watching. Sadly had problem with my copy of Mirror Mirror and didn't see the end of the film :( but on flip side I enjoyed the groovy 70'sness of Live or Let Die.

Suzie

Oh Jamie and Shannon, I already miss you so much! I mean seriously, saying good-bye and not hanging out together is super difficult to adjust to. I am so glad I have so many photos so I can feel like we're still together. I also really am looking forward to our new blogging project. Going to take me a while to get to it. Been mostly sleeping and resting since I got home. Thank you both for everything!!! One of the best adventures of my life.

Rewind: June 24, 2012

Jamie

After Suzie's visit it seemed like just the right time to rewind to when she was wee. I love this picture of her standing all cute by our garden in Montreal. Thanks, Suzie, for being such a great model when I got my first camera :)

June 23, 2012

Jamie

The big reveal! Suzie has been here for an amazing visit. We managed to work in so much fun, so many adventures and lots and lots of chatting (and eating!) I think this should be a yearly tradition! It was great to get out with Mom and celebrate Mother's Day all together!

Jamie

It was so special getting the opportunity to walk through our old neighbourhood. I just couldn't believe it when these two girls walked by. They absolutely could have been me and Carol when we were in junior high. That really made me smile.

(Sister Summit 2012) Today was an awesome day for creative conversation. It felt like the beginnings of something wonderful. How perfect for the summer solstice!

Jamie

So excited to have had the opportunity to attend Chris Guillebeau's Toronto stop on his book tour for The $100 Startup. The book is great inspiration for getting going on your entrepreneurial dreams and it was a treat to be able to give Chris a big hug before heading off to WDS in a couple of weeks!

Oh, Prometheus, how I wish I'd liked you more. Still, I'm thrilled with getting to go to another Alien movie with family in the theatre; that alone makes it all worthwhile!

June 18, 2012

Jamie

I'm not a big gamer these days but Little Big Planet sure draws you in. Just designing your poppet is so much fun. Heck, just saying "poppet" is so much fun. One thing's for sure - this game brings lots of laughter!

Shannon

Weekend watching, although I pre-emptively took this pick so it ended up not being exactly / all that I watched, ... but here is to consistency!

June 15, 2012

Jamie

Popped out to the store and found some treasures! I love making a statement with jewellery!

Shannon

I've really worked on cleaning up my place and switching to 'summer' including the paw-pow! of this brightness of my blanket (and the other side was starting to wear thin), but I love the paw-pow! so it's all good.

  Jamie

Waffles at our place!! What a great way to spend a Wednesday morning, seriously. I'm so glad Justin caved on the "no devices with only one purpose" rule! Though I've heard from a certain Suzie the Foodie that you can actually make lots of things in the waffle maker. Who knew?

Shannon

Special yummy breakfasty goodness at Jamie's! :)

June 12, 2012

Jamie

The garden obsession continues! Yesterday I stepped out to pick up groceries and thought I'd just stop in to the garden centre for a mo'. I had a couple of bare spots that needed some life and thought I'd take a quick look at options... and promptly found myself filling a flat with white perennials (Yay! I usually find white flowers so hard to find). Time to walk them home and then head out for groceries again. An extra trip, yes, but well worth it.

June 12, 2012

Jamie

One of my favourite things about the new backyard is watching the birds. I listen to them all day from my studio and there's been one song in particular, sung in the early morning and at sunset, that I've wondered about. Which board is sharing that song? Yesterday, I finally saw. It's a robin!

Shannon

Late add for me, I got out to the movies for the Book to Film Club selection of Cosmopolis and oh boy that will be an interesting one to review!

June 11, 2012

Jamie

This is the latest I have ever done my dreamboard. I choose all my images under the Full Strawberry Moon but didn't get them on the board until this weekend. It's quite a different board for me, though I recognize all my colours, with the addition of that big emerald ball! I was recently reading somewhere about the power of transformation and becoming unrecognizable even to yourself. That seems really present for me right now, particularly in the woman up to the left. And it always stirs my heart when an image shows up and takes your breath away. The central image did that for me.

Weekend watching and this week I fill an odd gap in my Alien countdown with Predator and AVP (aka Alien vs Predator), as well as On Her Majesty's Secret Service for the Bondathon and Jersey Shore Shark Attack (of COURSE - love shark B-movies) care of Space. Fun times.

Rewind: June 10, 2012

Jamie

Yes, I'm a little obsessed with the backyard right now. I continue to be so surprised at how deeply impactful I"m finding the changes. I remember when we took this picture, so very happy with how the garden itself had taken shape. Looking at it, I can see how much my mock orange has grown (in the corner, with the white flowers) and I realize I artemisia has not come up this year! And Suzie, remember when we took out that big raspberry bush? I miss the raspberries but am loving the peonies that are there instead. One thing gardening is really teaching me is that sometimes it takes a long time to grow.

June 9, 2012

Jamie

I am so excited about our new patio furniture and love that putting it together actually included what will become some fun memories! Both Justin and Shannon tested the theory that they could fit in the shipping boxes! Hilarious! And now we have this wonderful spot to sit and have a cup of tea or a glass of wine and chat for hours in our much more private backyard. I can't wait for all of us to do that together! Thank you so much for your help, Shannon!

Shannon

Making tea at Jamie's after helping with the furniture! It's a weekly ritual :). The tea... not the furniture!

Wow, I had no idea there was going to be that pylon effect behind me. I just instinctually took the photo!

Suzie

Yesterday was insane. Mega laundry, picking up items for next week, returning library books... I had the whole day to myself and did not waste a single second which felt good but am looking forward to a laid back weekend.

June 8, 2012

Jamie

Well, the flowers that were in my kitchen earlier this week have now officially been planted! It felt so decadent to step out of my house at 10:00 in the morning during the week and do some gardening. I really do love working at home. I forgot to give these beauties some water but luckily we had this amazing - and kind of freakish - sudden heavy downpour while the sun continued shining. Wild.

Shannon

Can you take a candid of yourself? This kidn of is as I often do these pic of me shots on the way out the door when I'm covering film festivals, just to ensure the battery is in my camera and it's working. Wild to see how ritual happen!

Under Our Willow Tree

Suzie

A new foodie t-shirt, a wind breaker and iPad carrying case. I would say that looks like me getting ready for a bit of adventure thanks to Walmart! Oh and another appointment, this time a dentist appointment. They are going to have to redo my new nightguard because the one they made I would crack with my jaw in days. My new dentist couldn't believe how much wear and tear my old night guard had and said it would just be a waste of money so they are re-doing it with tons of reinforcement. Yeah, life hasn't been stressful at all.

June 7, 2012

Jamie

Sticking with the flower theme for just a bit longer. I guess it's that time of year! These beauties are actually at Tanya's. We spent the day together yesterday spending time working through her business and then through mine. It was awesome. Working on stuff like that is one of my very favourite things to do. Though I have to admit I was pretty moody when we were slogging through some of my stuff. There are some changes coming at Jamie Ridler Studios!

Shannon

Still in crazy festival mode and trying to process all the amazing short films. So many exciting ones to enjoy! The programs I saw yesterday were The Family Compact and Creative Control and as I exclaimed in my vlog last night I realized it is 100% true that of course I would go to these as I am from, and a part of, a family of creatives!

Suzie

Sorry! Life is very weird and had an unexpected turn yesterday. Reg is home today (long story) and so I haven't had time to upload photos of me making chocolates but I am fine.

June 6, 2012

Jamie

I'm sticking with the flower theme! I guess it's that time of year. I was so excited to finally get out to the garden centre and pick a few lovelies for our tiny front garden. Being on a busy street, the front of the house is a challenge but it's so welcoming to have something pretty as soon as you arrive.

Shannon

Back in festival mode, and this time I'm taking on and taking in the Worldwide Short Film Festival. I really love this festival, so many short films to enjoy in just 6 days and I only just realized that this year will be my 5th year covering the festival! Wow! See my Day 1 Vlog here.

Under Our Willow Tree

Suzie

You know I am not big into stuff but these copper pots make my heart soar. I was using them in the kitchen yesterday to work on a rhubarb "Eton Mess" dish and a strawberry sauce to accommodate it. This made me seriously happy.

June 5, 2012

Jamie

My peonies are so happy this year! They are so gloriously heavy and abundant that they are throwing themselves dramatically onto the lawn. It's definitely time for me to get those circular supports for these precious blooms (LOL, that suddenly sounds like a euphemism for buying a bra!) Until I get the support, my solution has been to bring them inside and enjoy! I had been blown away by the big beauty and then last night noticed the little bud had opened wide. I love the journey of flowers!

Shannon

Oh that sneaky cat... here you can't see the action but there is the evidence as he eats my to do list! Sneaky sneaky!!

Under Our Willow Tree

Suzie

Yesterday was a weird, weird day. I had to suddenly go to the doctor's (everything's OK, thank goodness) and Reg came home unexpectedly so he could drive me and it's so, so cold! I think it was below 10C when we went out. I was showing Reg my mock orange tree and how it is covered in blooms and my heart hurt a bit. As much as I struggling living here, it makes me sad to leave this tree one day. I feel silly writing that but I thought you two would understand. It has grown so much, been attacked by miserable bugs, overshadowed by the plant next to it and yet it is doing amazing. I am so proud of this tree.
