Justin and I often celebrate Valentine's just before or just after, not always liking to be a part of the throngs. Last night we went to our local restaurant and it was such a treat! They had some amazing specials, including a delicious crustini with pear, a soft cheese and a generous drizzle of lavender honey. Mmmm!! And then Kim Harris from Halifax took the stage and she was just a delight to listen too. We left with her CD and I am so looking forward to getting to know it. You can hear her here. Maybe you'll get a chance to hear her out on the east coast, Suzie, hehe. Wouldn't that be wild?

Shannon

Really random pic.  It was going to be a cat pic, but he moved out of frame!  I don't think I can get more random than that.

Suzie

I don't know if you remember this car Jamie but we saw it when we went to the neighbourhood garage sale. With my fifth year anniversary of food blogging coming up, I've been doing a lot of reflecting, questioning and overall assessing the situation. Reg always says, "Keep your motives pure" which helps a lot but also asking, "What would Picard do?" is another great adage as well. Is this just a hobby? Should I put so much time and effort into it? No idea what the answers are yet but that is my random pic and thought of the day

LOL, Shannon, what a great picture - evidence of the fast-moving ways of cats.

I really remember that, Suzie! It's a great guiding principle - both Picard and Pure Motives. You've created such a brilliant blog.

I looked up "hobby". It means, "enjoyable activity: an activity engaged in for pleasure and relaxation during spare time." I don't think that definition captures the fullness of what you do and why you do it, do you?

I've been looking for a word that describes the kind of passionate commitment and drive I see in this kind of creating and right now I'm still thinking it's "work." You are working and creating your body of work in the world.

Here are pieces of the first definition of work in Merriam Webster. I think they apply.

: activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something:
: sustained physical or mental effort to overcome obstacles and achieve an objective or result.

What do you think?

A random pic of total randomness!!! Love it Shannon. :)

No, it's true, hobby definitely doesn't cover the all-encompassing world of food I am in, LOL. OK, maybe this is my life's work and that is good enough. Yes, those definitions fit, thank you Jamie!

It's funny, I was looking at all the things I am doing with crafty, jewellery and now art and they all revolved around food. And that makes me happy and I find it all so weird. Which for now, will do.

I think it is clear that right now I just can't see clearly or make decisions so I am going to "stay with the course" (and I wrote that with Picard's voice). Just keep engaging and see where it takes me.

Engage should be your word! Now that's one that feels like it's good great energy :)
