I was very excited to get some felt in the mail yesterday! I have some new projects in mind with embroidery. Fun! One thing I've learned (but haven't done yet) is to make note of which of the colours I actually loved and which ones not so much, so that next time I order I'm not trying to figure out whether it was cotton candy or petal pink I found too bright.

New mug for work! The one of the right that is. And it's predecessor is on the left, which I accidentally dropped and broke first thing this morning. Me and that mug have gone through a lot at many jobs & I feel pretty bad to have broken it (you can see the very thin crack if you look very closely). Yep. Not the best way to start the week.

Only 7C here which is quite warm for the east coast at this time of year but with that sunshine I had to bundle up and go for a walk. Not pretty here but it is nice to have some freedom of movement. That said, freezing rain and snowstorms on the way this week but Reg has taken time off so he won't have to walk all that way to work in it due to the stupid bus strike so that also makes me happy.

I've been having this compelling feeling to do some stitching recently - just like that sudden, "I want to learn to make granny squares" that led me to crocheting! There's a lot to write about in the experience - the places my resistance lives, the disconnect between my creative impulse and my taste. But in the midst of all that is the pure pleasure I get from sitting down in front of a movie and stitching. It's like doodling with thread. I spent hours this weekend just learning stitch after stitch with the help of Colorful Stitchery: 65 Hot Embroidery Projects to Personalize Your Home and enjoyed every minute.

This month's dreamboard - feels very different to me than my usual ones, almost exclusively black and white and lots of big pictures. Maybe it's time for a clear slate & big picture view?

I totally went through the "Ringer" yesterday! Oh to have a lazy day and watch a gazillion episodes of a crazy show like this one in a row. A lazy TV rollercoaster ride that I really needed. Totally entertaining. What a blast!

Rewind: March 11, 2012

Jamie

A while back when we were helping Mom clean slides we found so many treasures, including this pic. I have many fond memories of summer trips to Sauble Beach. That's me, looking a bit tentative in the blue shirt, with Mom smiling beside me. Dad is holding Robbie's hand. In front are family friends Jennifer and Sharon and their mom, Gwennie.

Warning! Movie Spoiler Ahead!

Yesterday Reg and I had a nice lazy day and watched The Wrath of Khan. It had been a while and I had forgotten that this was the "sad one" I can barely get through... but I did. And, as usual, I cried.

I remember that when I saw it as a kid that Jason asked on the way home, "Dad, did you cry when Spock died?" Dad responded, "Of course."

That memory is always with me. It revealed a lot about Dad that I love and respect. It also made me feel better that when it comes to sadness in stories, I cry. I cry a lot.

Shannon and I had our regular Friday night hang out and Jinx gave us this gorgeous photo opp, lol! Shannon and Jinx have had a special relationship ever since that first day that we went together to the Humane Society and Shannon said, "How about this one?" Next thing I knew, Jinx was a member of the family.

This week has been a wild one for weather with days of both -11C and 10C, and yesterday was no exception. Although it was crisp and clear most of the day at night the wind & snow came out of nowhere, so much so it had to make me laugh (and take a picture) at the end of the day. Toronto weather. It's a little bit of everythin.

I am still delving into the world of video on YouTube. I had taken this video on Crafty Thursday of the loot I bought at the dollar store and shared my treasures. I have noticed this is very popular with crafting Youtubers but still wasn't sure anyone would be really interested.

I spent yesterday putting the video together and converting and uploading, which always takes longer than I think it will. I have had over 30 views which is pretty good. I had fun picking out music and putting the video together. I love The Pierces because they can be so weird and I was happy with to finish the video with my mad scientist photo.

I still remember how immediately I knew that I was going to like Sabine. She's smart, sincere, stylish and a lot of fun. When I look back on my Project 365, I realize we've been friends for years now and I feel so blessed. Every time we get together, there's so much to talk about, to think about, to laugh about, to be heart-to-heart about. I adore you, Sabine!

Last night was the 32nd Genie Awards, celebrating achievement in Canadian film. During the 1 hour television broadcast of the awards, Viggo Mortensen picked up the award for PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE / INTERPRÉTATION MASCULINE DANS UN RÔLE DE SOUTIEN for his role as Sigmund Freud in A Dangerous Method. And although he isn't Canadian himself, he certainly has the Canadian spirit - so much so that he wrapped his Genie in a Montreal Canadiens flag. Now that's style.

I had one of the best days yesterday. It was beautiful (although for me, still chilly) so I went out for a walk and got errands done. Then Reg came home with this bouquet of flowers to honour me for International Women's Day. It is one of the most deeply romantic things he has ever done for me, honouring my feminist side and me as a woman... meant the world to me. And I had fun crafting too. Awesome day.

Totally delighted to find this baby heating up my mailbox! Danielle is brilliant and has a powerful gift for setting people on fire! I'm honoured to receive this preview copy of The Fire Starter Sessions: A Soulful + Practical Guide to Creating Success on Your Own Terms and can't wait to savour every bit of white hot wisdom.

One week into this weeks accomplishment calender! I've shaken up the colour story and legend a bit, and added a few things but so far I'm really doing well and really feeling awesome about my brightly coloured tacks and all that they represent.

I was invited to attent the Loblaw livelifewell blogger and media session as a local foodie blogger and Reg was sweet enough to take me. It was cold last night, no way I could go alone and again he was my sherpa for the evening. I got to meet a couple local bloggers which was exciting. Hope I didn't make an idiot out of myself. I was very excited to wear the raven side of my Vincent Price pendant and Reg commented that we went as PIBs (people in black). Maybe there is a little Toronto in us after all.

Lately I've been feeling inspired by video. I created a Jamie Ridler Studios YouTube channel. I also had a lot of fun making another Creative Living video. (I haven't shared it yet but you can see it here). Though I called it a Quick Tip really it's more of a mini workshop since we do the exercise together right on the video. I just loved what showed up when I turned the radio on!

I love that there are so many film choices in this city - like getting a chance to see the Hong Kong/China historically set action/mystery film Let the Bullets Fly with Chow Yun-Fat and Ge You. Actually Ge You is totally the lead and I can't figure out what I know him from, lovely calm presence and a gorgeous voice. The film was long and exuberantly convoluted, but that just make it more fun.

I was convinced that I would have nothing to share from yesterday. I was busy doing housework and trying to de-dust the bedroom but I did accomplish one cool thing. I took a "final" photo of my reversible Vincent Price pendant. After the whole soldering issue, I just haven't been feeling crafty. So I decided to focus (literally) on something I have accomplished which is this pendant. I worked so hard on it and a long, long time. And... I am totally in love with it so... yay Suzie!
