Over the holidays, Justin and I decided to sponsor a young girl in Africa. It was just her birthday so on Friday Shannon and I went out and found some treats we could send her and yesterday I packaged them all up and got them ready to send. It takes weeks for letters to get from here to there but I hope she'll be delighted when it arrives. I also hope that one day she'll write us a letter and tell us about herself and her life.

I've been having fun adding Just Dance back to my repetoire, and I have a feeling I will be doing a *lot* more of it in the future. In moderation of course. Okay as much moderation as this extremist can handle!

Reg and I drove out to Coquitlam to get our checkup at the dentist and it's unbelievable how much Coquitlam has changed. When we lived there the building in the middle and the left weren't there and there was no skytrain. You could see Burke Mountain clearly. That said, I am very happy we had a very clear (but cold) drive out there. They were calling for freezing rain but it disappeared. I even picked up produce while Reg was in there so we came home with food too but man, the cold and going to the dentist in general is so stressful, rested the rest of the day. So tired.

Ever since I got my FitBit I have been looking for fun ways to add more steps to my day, including getting back to JustDance. Yesterday I managed to rank #2 on the world stage for one song. Woohooo!!

And there is no more tree. I have not gotten used to it yet, the room feels so big right now. I know I'll adjust but it's all a little surreal. I had really gotten used to it being there. Huge thank you to Jamie and Justin for helping with getting it out and getting my place free of little tree pieces It was so amazing to have a real tree this year, I will remember it always!

I was a cheeky monkey to take this photo of Reg precariously holding a ladder on our staircase as the contractor went up into the attic. He said in all his years of working on houses, he was never seen an attic over a staircase. Patchwork is done until the spring when we should get a new roof, fingers crossed. So glad to be renters! And had so much fun doing stART today. :)

So far in 2017 I have felt very focused on creating and Sunday was no different - we got back to Art Day YAY!! It was so fun to pull out some oil pastels and embark on another Lisa Congdon Creativebug adventure. Plus, we had tea and treats and good company. Shannon is always such a lovely host. What a great way to start a year of art!

I feel like I'm a bit late to the game on wrapping up the holidays, but I needed to... recover from the holidays. This was my "pre clean up" picture, but I forgot to take a post clean up pic! I watched Die Hard while taking the decorations off the tree. That feels like a fun way to pull things to a close: with explosions! I think that a new tradition is born!

Suzie

It was a pretty quiet weekend mostly at home but the weather warmed up and even though it was precarious to walk on sidewalks covered in wet ice thanks to the rain, we went out to see Kiki's Delivery Service (the movie I shared with you two) at a rep theatre. Unfortunately being out in the cold and wet has my cough going again and the theatre wasn't heated (oh Vancouver...) which was bad for my physical health but getting out of the house was good for my mental health.

Justin and I had such a cool time getting out to the pop-up planetarium at the AGO. Who knew there even was such a thing! You step into this installation, sit on the floor and look up at a presentation about the stars and the galaxy. I even lay down on the floor with my head on my folded up sweater. I felt just like a little kid being amazed by a Saturday adventure. Totally awesome. (PS I know we usually do memories on Sunday but I've found I don't want to miss sharing Saturday's experiences!)

Suzie

So happy to get out of the house and have a Suzie Day! Reg got called into a job, contractor cancelled our appointment and I had a whole day to do whatever the heck I wanted. I even got out to the post office, stopped by Value Village and picked up these beauties for baking and got down to London Drugs. I even made a crust for a chocolate tart I am going to make for the weekend in one of my pans. Today rocked!

Jamie

I have been waking up early and doing the assignments from Carla's class right away. Yesterday I then moved onto a big project I'm working on for next year, a book, of sorts. I was so in the zone that I think I started it working at 6:30 am and didn't stop until noon. I would have kept going but I had a hair appointment!

Shannon

Icicles! I'm suprized I even noticed these while I was out because it was a super chilly day, but I did! It was kind of cool to see them, although if they were much larger I would be worried they would look menacing and could cause some trouble to the cars below. Here's hoping they melt away gently.

Suzie

Contractor got stuck in the ice on the way to our place, city workers helped him out and he got to check out our ceiling. Few days of snowstorms ahead so we risked taking the car out and turns out Vancouver has the highest gas prices of North America. Oh and we got some supplies at the local market to help get through the next few days. Winter better be over in a month!!!

Jamie

With the weather really cold and the post-holiday season in effect, it was time for some super delicious and super healthy soup - Tuscan vegetable and bean to be precise. We were missing the pesto but it was still a yummy way to warm up on a cold and dark night.

Shannon

I didn't end up using this pic, but it was a possible thumbnail for my first ever Words, Words, Words! video. Thank you both for watching and commenting, and oh my ... how did I not remember that Rikki Tiki Tavi was a mongoose! Too funny. Now I'll remember!! It was quite a stretch for me to do this one, and I went through several recording attempts to get to this one. Even though it was hard to admit some things (prose!) and I totally mispronouced sesquicentennial, I am really glad I did it. Thank you both for your support!

Suzie

Reg and I braved the elements and took public transit to see Hidden Figures which was so good! I forgot that the cat cafe Catfé was in the same building. I couldn't go in because it would have killed Reg of course but to finally see it was exciting! I follow them on FB and love seeing the cats get adopted. One day... Although it really is about adopting cats and not having coffee hanging out with cats. Still, very cool.
