Rewind: September 30

Jamie

I've been thinking about home a lot lately. This is our last home in a state of chaos as we packed everything to get ready to move here. It's amazing the stories our things tell about us - even those things we've left behind. We no longer have that cactus, because I discovered I don't like to live with the defensiveness of a prickly plant, or those chairs, which were Shannon's, though looking at them now I can literally feel what it was like to sit on them. The teak piece is in our living room and I'm so proud we figured out how to make some changes to it and have it become our entertainment unit. Our stuff really does, in so many ways, hold pieces of who we are, who we have been and who we are becoming.

Bluenose Being Rebuilt

Suzie

I know it wasn't that long ago Jamie that we went and saw the Bluenose together (although if feels like a long time) in Lunenburg but yesterday was her big re-launch! Can you believe it? From this to a finished ship in a year and a half! It makes me think about how we can re-invent the past, make it better and move on.

Jamie

Yesterday I got to go over to Shannon's and hang out with both her and Mr. Man. We had a great time catching up, getting some stuff done and watching Project Runway! We met up a bit early this week so that I could get home and start my weekend meditation retreat with the Open Heart Project practitioner program. I've never done anything like this. There will be time for meditation, rest and writing. I hope it will be rejuvenating and that the good energy will do a bit of mojo clearing at our place!

I filmed my velouté video yesterday and started off with a big screw up. But then I said screw it, just do it Suzie! And I did! And the soup was velvety and beautiful. Made me rethink how I look at chicken entirely. Now I can understand the comfort factor. So I now just have to edit it and lesson 2 will be done. No idea what lesson 3 will be yet. How exciting!

Jamie

These broken crystal teardrops express the truth of my most recent interloper interaction. After not seeing him for a couple of days, he was curled up at our door in the morning, clearly hoping for breakfast. I let him in. After a while, it was getting pretty cold so I risked closing the door. Big Mistake. He went ballistic. He threw himself at everything trying to get out. He lept as high as the top of the windows. He'd broken lots of things before I managed to get the door open so he could get out. I'll be posting more about the experience and my thoughts on it at JRS soon. What a morning.

Shannon

Finally finished Supernatural Season 6 re-watch. I'm cutting it close. Season 8 starts next Wednesday, and that is very little time to make it through all 23 eps of S7 when we have all this new TV to check out already. Fingers crossed I can do it! also, S6 isn't a fave of mine although the comedy-centric episodes are fantastic, I wasn't huge fan of the big arc. Will be interesting to see how I feel about S7 the second time round.

Had a great time chatting with Shannon yesterday! Also spent a lot of the day taking foodie photographs. Technically this isn't one of them, I used my fancy camera and this is taken with my non-fancy camera but I haven't uploaded those yet. I am definitely on the foodie radar for major companies these days. This time it was Nestle but I also received baked goods from a new line by Christine Cushing, who I adore!

So... how do you take a picture of the day when your pipes backed up and flooded part of your basement? Putting bleach on a black rag, that's how! Who knew you could get a pretty little batik moment in the midst of piling, cleaning and throwing out stuff from your basement? The good news is that we had someone in last night who was able to fix the problem. Phew!

Shannon

Panda time! I having fun playing a little Panda in WoW, although haven't quite decided which class to play... shammy...rogue... warrior?  Decisions, decisions!

Suzie

Yesterday I had this feeling I should go to my thrift store. Turns out they were having a tax-free day and I got some really cool stuff for very cheap. Recently I went through and editing down on Pinterest "My Style" Board to only have up what I currently do not have a lot of in my wardrobe but want to manifest. In one word? Character!

So that was my aim and I think I did well. When I saw this pink studded plastic belt for $1 I had to have it for Hal-Con and my Hexed costume. I love the hat too and so did the ladies at the store, they insisted I buy it. My basic wardrobe is not very exciting but if I treat it as the basics for a costume and accessorize appropriately, it is actually fun. Clothing fun? It's a first for me!

Jamie

Sorry I'm tardy with my pic too - and it's a bit of a cheat! This is actually from the opening night party at WDS this summer but we used it as the profile pic for my Pod-a-versary!! It was so exciting to celebrate 3 years of Creative Living with Jamie yesterday! Listening to all the beautiful messages really warmed my heart and Shannon, you did such an AMAZING job editing the whole thing together. I was just spellbound listening to the way it came together! Thank you :)

Shannon

Yesterday was the big launch day for the WoW Expansion Mist of Pandara.  I'm not getting my expac for a bit, but the awesome thing is even if you don't have it yet you can play the new Panda race in the new Panda area (you just can't play the new race of monks yet - which is fine for me because I'll make one of a different race).  It's fun so far!  The pandas are super cute.

Oh the thing we do for videos! Yesterday I was working on the video for my second cooking lesson. That morning I had gone out and bought a copper highlights kit. Which turned my chestnut brown hair quite red. In fact at the roots, it is almost pink! I was actually kind of thrilled. Something about being a red head, brings me out of my shell.

I even added a silly intro to the video wearing the beret Jamie got for Reg from Paris and did a Julia Child impersonation. Who is this perky silly woman?! Knowing I only have about half a year left in my kitchen to work on food has a lot to do with it I am guessing. A big kick in the foodie ass by the Universe. Whatever works...

  Jamie

Adventures with the interloper continue. We're exploring the possibilities of his coming inside. I loved how he parked himself in a great spot for observing the situation. It's an amazing journey and I'm seeing the same lessons for me that I learned with Lilly the black horse in Sedona, particularly around my instinct to want to "make" something happen instead of let something happen. I'm trying to just, well, open the door.

  Shannon

I'm a few weeks into my Star Trek: The Next Generation re-watch and was sooooo excited that they just show the episode with The Binars, I totally forgot what the story was but I love the race; definitely one of the weirder ones they've had on the series. Watching was a great way to relax after a challenging day.

After one of the longest days of my life, I just couldn't stand seeing the wallpaper on our computer of an image of a bridge in out old neighbourhood in Victoria anymore. It represented a path Reg and I officially can no longer get to ever again.

So we choose an image of Vancouver instead. Time to focus on what is possible and stop fighting a dead dream.

September 24, 2012

Jamie

Yep, it's all about the interloper right now. Oh, and that it looks like my computer is fixed!! Woohooo!! I'm so glad to be back at home in my laptop. Phew! And I continue to wonder whether this little boo has a home. We actually fed him in our kitchen yesterday. A bit of a shocking development but it just felt like the right thing to do. I wonder if he'll be here for breakfast again today.

Dredd

Suzie

Our weekend was very quiet. The only thing we really did was go out and see Judge Dredd (not in 3D). We loved it. Very different than I was expecting in a lot of ways. Totally impressed me. It was nice to get out too.

I know this isn't an old photograph but it is a photo of a memory, time and space. I just wanted to honour all the hard work Lorraine has put into her kitchen for all these decades.

September 22, 2012

Jamie

Yesterday was quite the day with the interloper. Shannon even got to see the little guy when she came by! He was on our deck most of the day and we've managed to get a little closer to one another. For a while, I was even sitting on the patio furniture and he was hanging out on the deck. Last night, I caved and gave him some food. He snarfed it like he hadn't eaten in ages.  He was still at our place by 1:30 this morning and when I woke up, despite the cold and a storm, he was there again. I don't know if he's someone's pet or whether he's a stray. I don't know what will happen. But I do know that I'm looking out for this little one.

Shannon

I recently got the Get Glue Superhero check in sticker.... although I'm not actually that sure how I feel about it given it means checking in 1000 times!  That's a lot of shows,...

A rare look at my summer closet (which just means my turtlenecks and polar fleece are in my crafts room). On Friday I couldn't take all my shoes being flung all over the dusty closet floor anymore. This wire shoe rack was in the hall closet and drove Reg crazy because it was always falling apart and getting caught on our long coats.

Funny, you can see the sales stickers on almost half of them. I broke the arches in my feet over a decade ago and have been scared to buy shoes, only to have to throw them out. I recently bought some more to see how they do this fall. Fingers crossed! And... now I can clean the floor of my closet. Woot!

OMG, Emily Rose from Haven tweeted to Suzie & I about the Season 3 Premiere!!! I can't believe it! So exciting. I can't wait for the show to start up again. I'm so sad though that we get it a full week behind the US airings, so it doesn't start here until next week.

Photobucket

Suzie

What a big day for Hexed Shannon! I could not believe it when I saw Emily Rose's tweet, super exciting! All good supernatural TV fun and so inspiring. Love it! Oh I know, wish Haven was on here tonight damn it!

Jamie

An impromptu visit out Shannon's way included some tea and cupcakes and also passing by this little spot that seems to always have an interesting new vignette in the window. This one seemed just perfect for the day.

I have been doing a lot of resting because stress is just kinda getting to me. Tension in my chest is not good. Thanks to Shannon, I have warm feet! Reg loved my socks and said, "You rock Shannon!" when he saw them and he's right. You do!

I am getting rid of all my crappy socks that don't really keep me warm and soon will be investing in warmer socks for the winter. I'm so nervous about being cold this winter, it's something that might help ease some of my anxiety. Starting off wearing Shannon's socks and being nice and warm is a good start.

Shannon

Totally love that there are reality competition shows out there that really show the creative process. Face Off has been a fave of mine since I started watching it and I also really like the new show Hot Set which features production designers at work - it's a bit different than I expected, but I'm still really digging it.

Photobucket

Suzie

Just wanted to share my new hair colour and cut. It's chestnut brown. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to style the cut in a way I like. This one wasn't too bad. I think there are too many layers at the bottom so it's always going wonky.

I liked having my hair lighter for the summer but with autumn coming and feeling more serious about our future, I just wanted something more reflective of me and to be honest, have more pigment. I don't want to fade away.

September 18, 2012

Jamie

This little vignette represents some great challenges and some great joy. Circe's Circle started yesterday and the group is full of life and brilliance. I'm absolutely delighted with the magical start we've made. And I'm particularly proud that I managed to make it while my computer was in crisis! Luckily I'd printed up some info and had Shannon's old computer as backup (and in fact I'm working on it now) and I'm really nervous that my beautiful computer that holds so much of my life and work in it may be done. Justin's doing the best he can to resuscitate but we both estimate there's about a 40% chance that it will be okay. Wish us luck!

Shannon

Continuing the Supernatural re-watch with finishing off Season 5, and wow, it's a challenging season. Not as hard as S4 but still pretty heavy. That Kleenex box was not intended to be in the background, but it's definitely appropriate! I'm a day behind my rewatch schedule, which isn't too bad except that more new TV starts this week (Revolution & Hot Set that I'm watching), but I'm still going to keep at it. Sorry for not posting much here recently, been having camera woes but Suzie reminded me that my phone has a camera. Quality isn't the best but at least it's something!

Naked Grape Wines
Suzie

Jamie, I remember you getting a bottle of champagne to celebrate one of your launches. I was thinking of that yesterday and decided to indulge by picking up wine to use for food in honour of my Damn the Man campaign. Later that day a friend of ours donated to my blog! I am choosing to accept that as a positive sign.

September 17, 2012

Jamie

Generally I try not to work on the weekends, never mind not get on the computer! But September is calling and there's lots to do, so I spent my Sunday creating my newsletter and honing several things I want to share. One is this e-course that Sunny and I are working on for the New Year. It's about looking at your diaries to discover when you started to become yourself. It's a beautiful project and we're in development now - and asking people if they'd be willing to share some excerpts from their early years! I'm so excited to see what becomes (hehe) of this project!

Foodie News

Suzie

Reg and I had a very conservative (for lack of a better term) anniversary together. We went to the mall because Reg wanted me to pick out some jewellery (I looked but nothing was perfect) and we ended up at the new Mac store in total heaven. Did not spend any money but it was just awesome being there. We really are Mac geeks, LOL. I think we just needed to get out for some non-stressful window shopping and had a great time.

Rewind: September 16, 2012

Jamie

I thought I'd offer up a little pre-wedding preparations as my rewind this week. You both look so beautiful. What a joy to be with you on such a special day, Suzie. You were an absolutely beautiful bride. And you know, today is the New Moon. Perhaps she's here to bless you both on a new phase of your wonderful journey. May it be full of love, ease, fun and prosperity. Love to you and Reg!

Suzie

Hard to believe but it was 12 years ago Reg and I got married! :) Can't wait to spend this beautiful day celebrating together.

September 15, 2012

Jamie

After hanging out with Shannon chatting over awesome food at one of our favourite spots (Suzie, we'll have to go there next time you come!) I was just feeling like I wanted to make something - anything! So I found an online tutorial for making felt flowers, grabbed my scissors, markers, thread, a notepad, surrounding myself with supplies and some PVR'd TV and had a good time just cutting, stitching and doodling. Creating like this really can be a kind of meditation.

Yay! Pineapple's on sale!

Suzie

Yesterday I spent most of the day working on my videos (thank you both for your feedback, I am pondering your words and figuring stuff out) but I did pick up groceries for the weekend. I got a container of pineapple for $2. Figured it had all the good stuff, weighed less and took up less space in my backpack. Food is getting crazy here. Alpen is now $6.19! Totally living off sales right now.

September 14, 2012

Jamie

LOL, I'm ending up with a series of pictures of Jinx where she looks a bit like a bobble-head doll. She just always starts to lean in or come towards me (which is so sweet) and her head ends up looking huge! She loves it when Justin and I do our yoga and always manages to hit the mat before we do. It's always funny when I'm lying in savasana and she rubs her head against my toes.

Suzie

Once again, chatting with Shannon for Hexed was definitely the highlight of my day! Other than that I spent it mostly resting, the cumulative affects of being over busy and tired. Thankfully I am feeling a bit better today and I know spending time with Shannon was a big reason why. Thanks Shannon!

Jamie

Tanya and I haven't been able to co-work for a couple of weeks and it looks like we weren't the only ones to miss one another! Check out the determination of this sweetie pie to come out and say hi when I arrived!

Suzie

It is official! My first lesson to my cooking school is done. It took a whole week to film and edit but it is done and I am already getting feedback that means so much to me. Turns out people appreciate watching me break down a chicken. Phew!

 Jamie

Walking home from Art Picnic yesterday I saw these amazing flower shadows on the side of this car. Wouldn't you just love to stencil these on?! Glorious.

Suzie

Yesterday I had my annual check-up and stopped by the sewing shop to pick up my new chef's jacket! You are the first to see it (other than Reg of course). :) I am finishing my first cooking class today (fingers crossed) so this was good timing. I feel like a new cycle has begun and I am thrilled.

Jamie

All I can say is this man is a genius. Genius! Last night, Justin and I stood right in front of the stage for the amazing electronic musical talents of Amon Tobin, performed in an astonishing art installation. We could literally feel the music in our bodies. The bass lifted my hair with every thrum. The projections on this box-built set were spectacular. Close up they were immersive. You can get a sense of this extraordinary experience in this video. I will never forget it.

September 10, 2012

Jamie

Writing at my desk in my studio, out of the corner of my eye I noticed that there seemed to be something on the fence, something that looked kind of like a shadow. A shadow in the perfect shape of a cat! It was the interloper coming by for another visit. I got downstairs with my camera and took several pictures. I brought my writing downstairs and sat on the kitchen floor by the screen door. Eventually he came closer but only when I stay on my side of the door.

Shannon

The Summer Supernatural Re-Watch Continues with Season 4 and wowzers, it's much heavier than I remembered and wasn't as fun to re-watch as the previous three seasons although it has a few amazing comedic episodes that I look forward to every time. This season a week thing could start to be a challenge as we head into new TV cropping up on the schedule, but I'm still determined to finish re-watching all 7 seasons before the show returns circa Oct 3, 2012 (and still waiting on a Canadian air date).

Suzie

Reg and I had a rough weekend. Saturday was hell but then Sunday we went to an all-day punk music festival which was awesome but I am really in physical recovery mode. I must say that buying these cool rubber boots to keep my feet dry in the rain was an added benefit I did not see coming. I love these boots!

Shannon & Me at Wonderland

Suzie

I remember you REALLY wanted to go on the swan ride Shannon at Canada's Wonderland so I went with you. I'm leaning back to make sure you got in the photograph. I saw this photo at Mom's when I was visiting and just love it. As usual, you are as cute as a button!

September 8, 2012

Jamie

So.... I bought Justin Guild Wars 2 for his birthday. And he says, "Why don't you try making a character?" And I say, "Sure" because making characters is fun. And I play for a few and it's okay but no big deal. And then I make a new character, a human elementalist, a girl that plays with fire and lightning and water and earth. And now.... I'm hooked.

Shannon

Earlier this week I watched Anonymous. It's funny that almost a year ago it was one of my considerations if I would pick it as a TIFF pick, but I decided to wait to see it in the theatre. Turns out I didn't get to it and therefore ended up watching it on TMN. And after all that, I didn't end up liking it that much - I felt like there wasn't enough information on the characters to tell them apart, which feels ironic as it's a mystery/revisioning on who Shakespeare was/could have been. Maybe those better versed 'got it' more than I, but I could barely maintain attention to watching it. Too bad, because there were so many fabulous actors in it.

Suzie

Went to the dentist's office to get my new-new night guard and stopped by the thrift store. I was compelled to by this linen skirt and green shirt! Totally not the kind of clothes I have been trying to find but I was drawn to them. The outfit was only $6 and I think the skirt might be perfect for learning how to embroider on.

I guess I have been in a really rebellious mood to buy clothes that are not "my colours" BUT they do fit! And the green is very shinny. We'll see if I end up wearing them.
